Purpose
The Barre Partnership, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, coordinates activities that maintain and improve civic pride and the economic, social and cultural quality of life in Barre, Vt., with a particular concentration on the downtown. The Partnership provides opportunities for economic development and employment, strengthening the tax base and increasing private and municipal investment. Headquartered at Barre City Hall, its board of directors is composed of local business people and citizens. The Partnership and its sponsoring municipality, Barre City, are members of the Vermont Downtown Program, the Central Vermont Chamber of Commerce and the National Trust Main Street Center. The City of Barre, one of 22 designated downtowns in the state, supports the Partnership's efforts with a yearly stipend. The rest of the group's operating budget is raised through membership, fundraising, donations and grants.
The Barre Partnership, the local non-profit for promoting a vibrant downtown Barre, recently introduced its new Executive Director. Jon Noyes has been tapped to replace the recently departed director Matt Lash, who has begun working with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Noyes, who will lead the organization full-time, assumed the position in January. He is a lifelong Vermont resident; spent his formative years growing up in Barre, and currently resides in Montpelier. A graduate of Spaulding High School, Mr. Noyes comes to the Partnership with a wealth of promotional and media experience. For the past two plus years, he has been Special Events Coordinator for the Radio Vermont Group, which includes WDEV AM/FM and WLVB FM. One of the high points of that association was the conception and implementation of the WDEV’s 75th Anniversary Ice Cream Social Celebration that took place in Waterbury in July of 2007. That event included numerous musical performances, free ice cream and a wealth of Vermont dignitaries (including Gov. Jim Douglas, Senators Patrick Leahy and Bernard Sanders), along with a look back at the history of the Radio Vermont Group. He also, along with George Commo, is the broadcast voice of Norwich University Men’s Hockey. Prior to his work in Waterbury, Noyes had a long and illustrious career in central Vermont broadcasting. He worked on-air mornings at WNCS FM/The Point for almost four years with his unique and eclectic program. Prior to that he was Program Director for WSKI AM as well as co-hosting the Extraordinary Extravaganza with the legendary Bob Bannon. He began his broadcasting career working for Barre’s WSNO AM and WORK FM, two stations his father Alan owned and operated for the better part of four decades. Beginning during his High School years, his duties there included on-air work, sports broadcasting, news director, copywriting and sales. That association lasted for almost 20 years. Mr. Noyes says of his new position “I’m very excited about this new opportunity. I’m a Barre boy. I was raised here, schooled here and some of my fondest memories are of growing up in the Granite City. Over the years, I’ve watched as the community has gone through numerous changes. I’ve always believed that Barre was and is a wonderful place to live and work. I truly believe the people; from the merchants to the elected officials to the residents, really want what is best for the community AND their families. It IS a great place to raise a family. The future is bright for Barre because there are people here who have great vision about its future, while keeping in touch with its past. I’m looking forward to being able to get the word out about what a great place Barre is to do business in, to visit and to live in. I’m very excited about the possibilities awaiting us all, right here in what can be everybody’s hometown – Barre, Vermont.”
